These are our families, our colleagues, people who are the least responsible for changing the climate, and who are now suffering from a climate disaster. HEARTBREAK IN NEPAL

Tragedy has struck the Himalayan region following a devastating glacial collapse and sudden flash floods. Raging floodwaters swept through mountain valleys along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers, destroying homes, bridges, and entire communities. Hundreds of lives have been lost, and many locals, trekking groups, and pilgrims remain missing.
Search, rescue, and emergency relief operations are currently underway in extremely difficult terrain.

Dear Ones,

After deep research, analysis, and direct communication with brave first responders on the ground, the true impact and scale of the glacial tsunami in Nepal has become clear. We are deeply saddened to share that, in some ways, the regional destruction from this disaster is far worse than the 2015 earthquake.

Thousands of homes, communities, schools, hydropower workers, pilgrims, and travelers have been swept away. The sheer force of the thundering slurry—packed with rocks, forest debris, and melting ice—struck suddenly, leaving almost no time to react. The region lacked early warning systems, and standard river sensors were rendered useless. Search teams continue to recover victims as far downstream as Chitwan (near Lumbini).

Drawing from our experience conducting rescue, relief, and rehabilitation work during the 2015 earthquake, we see three critical phases of need:

Immediate Rescue & Safe Shelter: The most urgent priority is locating survivors and getting them to safety.

Essential Care: Providing adequate shelter, healthcare, sanitation, and dedicated protection for women and children.

Long-Term Rehabilitation: Rebuilding devastated communities once the immediate crisis subsides.

After consulting with multiple teams, it is clear that the Government of Nepal’s disaster response is significantly stronger than in past crises. The Nepali Army and Police forces are doing an incredible job rescuing individuals and airlifting them to safety. Because roads and critical infrastructure have been destroyed, the military's helicopters and personnel are the primary means of access, and they are working relentlessly against the clock. Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) is rapidly deploying vital resources.

Under these circumstances, the most effective way we can help is to directly support the official national disaster response. Our CEBA and Anatta families are actively raising funds that will be donated directly to the Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund in Nepal. We encourage our broader network of friends and family to join us in supporting these critical efforts. Time is of the essence, and every contribution counts.

Aug 31 Update

:Moving into Phase Two

As rescue operations continue across affected areas, relief efforts are officially transitioning into Phase Two. Government forces have done an incredible, tireless job airlifting and rescuing families out of immediate danger. Now, the critical focus turns to supporting those who have barely escaped with their lives and have lost everything.

First Relief Truck Dispatched

Our trusted volunteers from the 2015 earthquake response—including Ashok, Rockey, and team—have scouted a shelter currently housing more than 800 people evacuated from Rasuwa, including many airlifted women and children. We have successfully dispatched our first truck load of essential supplies directly to this shelter, including: Ready-to-eat foods: Noodles and biscuits, Toothpaste, toothbrushes, washing powder and Menstrual hygiene products

Tomorrow, Ashok and team will be visiting the site in person to coordinate directly with authorities and assess ongoing urgent needs.

In times of deep crisis, no act of support is too small. It is shared kindness, care, and swift action that help communities rebuild.
